Environment Focus: NEMA Warns on Use of Mercury in Gold Mining

Thousands of Ugandans are living off the exploitation of gold reserves dotted around the country. The search for the precious metal is however threatening the protection of the environment – as miners use unregulated mercury and fail to reclaim pits upon exhaustion of the resource.
