The high cement prices continue to have a toll on the construction sector with many buildings being abandoned. With a bag of cement at 32000 shillings retail price, manufacturers had blamed the prices on the high cost of doing business and the low supply of clinker, a raw material used to make cement.
But government is optimistic that with the construction of the 162 billion-clinker factory in Moroto district, cement prices will go down and allow even low income earners build and move from grass thatched houses.
State Finance Minister in charge of General duties Gabriel Ajedra, tells NBS that prices will drop to as low as 10,000 shillings.
