In Uganda, different marriages are recognized either by the state or by those who hold them. These range from cohabiting to traditional or religious marriages. The holders of these marriages can continue to live happily as long as there are no legal implications that come at the time of separation or death of one of the partners. Interestingly, very few Ugandans are aware of the need to register their marriages with the Uganda registration services Bureau This means that thousands of holy marriages are not recognized by the state.
