Plans to construct a centralized radioactive source storage facility in Mukono district by the Uganda Atomic Energy Council may hit a snag as residents at Kituba Village Nama Sub County where the project is set to be located have contested its location in a residential area. Residents have demanded that the project be taken to an isolated place elsewhere in the countryside arguing they have fears that the scientifically manifested effects of ionizing radioactivity on human life such as the various types of cancers, retinal degeneration, hereditary defects, and sterility cannot be accommodated in an already well planned residential area.
