Civil Society organizations have reacted to government’s decision to withdraw the land amendment bill saying the bill was a violation of human rights. During a press briefing at the offices of Action Aid in Kasanga, civil society organizations said that the withdrawal should not be used by government to introduce a more controversial option that will see Ugandans lose more land. Civil societies noted that the enjoyment of the land rights still remains a great challenge to the country citing complaints of the public regarding compensation in spite of the existing law. The group now wants parliament to amend the land acquisition act to align it with the spirit and aspirations of article 26 of the constitution.
