The judiciary has launched a special court session to expedite the hearing of sexual and gender based violence cases. The principle judge Yorokamu Bamwine is optimistic that the special session will help reduce the burden of the case backlog that the judiciary is struggling with. The new court session is expected to help dispose of400 out of 2,025 sex and gender based violence cases still in the judiciary pending prosecution. While civil society groups are excited about this, there are doubts about the efficiency.
