Jinja Home To New Cancer Treatment Center

A new cancer treatment center has been opened up in Jinja Regional Referral Hospital by the Uganda Cancer Institute with the Executive Director Dr Jackson Orem in attendance.

Prior to the opening, the only other cancer treatment center was in Kampala at Mulago hospital. As the sole cancer treatment center in the country it brought about numerous problems such as overcrowding since people come from both near and far for treatment. Cancer is one of the deadliest diseases in the world today with cervical. breast and prostate cancer as the most common in the country.

The center in Jinja will be offering treatment and screening services with renovations being done to the theater to improve its efficiency. On top of that, numerous staff have undergone training in treatment and screening.
