Kilembe mines, once heavily known for the supply of copper and cobalt was once Uganda’s pride, today it is a shadow of its former self.

Currently the mines are in a state of limbo but the government hopes to redevelop the mines to provide employment, boost the economy and attract private investment. Ofwono Opondo, the Government spokesperson stated that the government will take over the project as in the past there were problems with an investor who wasn’t diligent. He also went on to say that the redevelopment will help undertake further mineral exploitation which will in turn boost the economy.
