Age Limit Ruling On Thursday

The Supreme Court of Uganda last night announced that the ruling on President Museveni’s eligibility to run for the 2021 presidential elections will be done on Thursday 18th April 2019.

The Supreme Court made the announcement after pressure from city lawyer Male Mabirizi when he went over there to demand an explanation on the delay in the ruling of the Age- limit Petition. The Judicial Code of Ethics requires judgement to be delivered in 60 days for cases whose judgement is reserved and yet the Supreme Court took close to 80 days without a response.

The Judiciary stated that the delay in the ruling was due to under-staffing at the respective levels. Mabirizi on the other hand wants damages paid that he incurred due to the late reply as well as the cost of application reimbursed.
