Lawyer Abdallah Kiwanuka: The goons hijacked the operations of court. Terrible incident. We took refuge in the court chambers for 2hrs. Those people at Makindye court yesterday had organised for days. We received the reports last week.
Police was aware of the planned demos. They should have deployed heavily. But they didn’t. The gaps were created by police itself. Police created room for chaos seen at Makindye court yesterday.
We told police officers our lives were at risk but they kept telling us “Please come out”. My car was vandalised. Our lives were at stake. The policemen were there in uniform. They looked on.
Officers present delegated their work to civilians. Goons were checking cars and denying some people entry. This government should respect the rule of law. The temple of justice was hijacked yesterday
I’ve received calls threatening me. Some witnesses have been threatened into silence. Witnesses have told us they’ve received anonymous calls threatening them. No surprise some have chosen silence
We dismiss allegations that lawyers bribed those witnesses. By end of yesterday, we had new witnesses. Witnesses who claim they were bribed should go to police with evidence. Otherwise, we are going to take them on.
