Over 70% of Inmates in Luzira are on Remand

70% of all prisoners at Luzira prisoners are awaiting trial before various courts of law. This grim reality was unearthed by legislators on the Defense and Internal Affairs Committee of Parliament during a surprise visit to the correctional facilities.
The legislators discovered that the prisons are overcrowded, bedbug infested and lacking in social amenities which poses a threat to the lives of the 3,000 inmates.
