Lands minister Betty Amongin has cleared the air on the proposal to amend the Land Acquisition Act, of 1965 which was mooted in the recently concluded Cabinet retreat in Kyankwanzi. Minister Amongin says that under the amendment, government will have the powers to compulsorily acquire land from the owner and proceed with the development program for public good as negotiations continue with the affected land owners. But experts on land are concerned that the new amendment could spark violence between government officials and land owners.
