Charcoal making is a lucrative business in most parts of the country – employing thousands of male youths and women traders. The industry has however had a negative impact on the country’s environment conservation efforts – with forests disappearing faster than they are replaced as dealers try to satisfy the unquenchable thirst for charcoal in the country’s emerging and expanding towns.
In Kiboga district, a group of people are however trying to cause change by implementing a relatively new technology of making charcoal – with hope that this will reduce on deforestation.
