The embattled Bishop of West Ankole Diocese Rev. Mwesigwa Yona Katonene has retired today from active service with no replacement in place. The archbishop of the church of Uganda Rt Rev. Stanley Ntagali now takes over the diocese in a caretaker position until a new Bishop is elected.
Bp. Katonene retires at the age of 65 having served the diocese for 11 conflict filled years especially in the later years when Christians of Sheema district accused him of planning to re-locate West Ankole University project from Sheema to Bushenyi district. Nonetheless, some of the Christians shed tears as the shepherd handed over the apostolic stuff.
