Poor Donation Culture Causing Blood Shortage in Uganda

A visit to any health facility over the past two weeks was daunting for any patient in the event that a doctor prescribed a blood transfusion – this as the country struggles with a shortage of blood. Speaking to NBS TV the Director Uganda Blood Transfusion Services Dr Dorothy Kyeyune Byabazaire attributed this to limited supplies of kits for the collection and testing as well as a poor blood donating culture within the population.
