The Opposition in Parliament are concerned that the hopes of Ugandans to participate in the much awaited referendum that intends to lift the term of office of the president from five to seven years lies in balance as government plans to amend the law to have only Local councils participate in this plebiscite. According to the Leader of Opposition in Parliament Winnie Kiiza, the move comes after the harsh public response to the recent Constitutional amendment bill 2017 that was tabled by Igara West legislator Raphael Magyezi.
