With over a mindboggling 226,000 children reported to be prematurely born every year in Uganda, stakeholders in the health sector are urging both government and public to wake up and check the figures. Medical coordinator of Productive Health Uganda Demeter Margaret Namuyobo has pinned expectant mothers for the neglect of antenatal services which she claims is the number one cause of premature babies. According to world health organization 2017 report, three quarters of the deaths can be prevented if mothers practice cost effective interventions by attending antenatal visits.
