Foot and Mouth Disease has been affecting Eastern Uganda since early January. The District Veterinary Officer for Moroto  stated that the disease will go on until vaccination measures reach satisfactory levels.
The Minister of Agriculture Vincent Ssempijja along with partners is currently in the region to make sure the measures are carried out given that the resources are readily available.
The epidemic is rumored to have come from the Turkana region in Western Kenya and got into the country through animal migration with the need for water since it is a relatively dry area.
Currently there is a ban on the sale of meat from cows or goats which puts the people of Moroto in an uncomfortable position since that region highly depends on livestock for income and consumption.
