Outrage yesterday as a video went viral all over social media showing army guards assaulting and disrespecting a female traffic officer at Seeta Mukono.

Sergeant Esther Namaganda was on duty in Seeta and noticed a black Prado signaling to make a turn, it was not the appropriate place for a U-turn and so approached the vehicle to make it known. She said she advised the occupants to perform the turn ahead at a nearby petrol station and after much debate, a couple of army officers Corporal Peter Bushindiki and Private John Robert Okurut exited the vehicle and a scuffle ensued with Sergeant Namaganda claiming that they tried to tear off her ranks and slapped her as well.

This, unfortunately, is not the first time Major General Kyaligonza has been controversial as in 1989 he faced a demotion for slapping an OC Station Jinja Rd ASP Tumusiime. Since the release of the video, there has been a lot of public criticism most notably Nobert Mao.

UPDF Spokesperson Brigadier Richard Karemire tweeted that a thorough investigation into the incident and that the two officers were being held at the Military Police Headquarters.
