Hon. Zaake Arrested, Freed and Re-arrested

Hon Zaake was arrested and taken to Arua Cief Magistrates Court today. The Mityana Municipality MP was arrested amid the chaos in Arua late last year following the Arua Municipality by-election alongside Kyadondo East MP Hon Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine.

This is the first time he has appeared in court since the incident because he was receiving medical attention for injuries sustained allegedly at the hands of the security forces. Hon. Zaake is charged for unlawfully escaping custody. The Arua court granted temporary freedom after being charged UGX50 Million non-cash bail and the next hearing adjourned for 22nd March 2019.

Arua Municipality MP Kassiano Wadri was in attendance at the court and praised the police for being humane in their handling of Hon Zaake’s arrest and transport. He further called the charge laughable as he claimed that the exact officer who claimed the accused escaped from him was the same officer who was holding him custody and drove him to Gulu that very day the accused was said to have escaped custody.

The situation, however, took a drastic turn as the Hon Zaake was rearrested by police forces minutes later to be taken to Gulu to face charges of treason
