Suspects that were being held at Luzira Prison for the murder of former Police Spokesperson Andrew Felix and Major Mohammed Kiggundu were granted temporary release following a decision by High Court Judge Lydia Mugambe.

High Court judge Lydia Mugambe explained that despite the grave accusations of terrorism and murder on the suspects, it does not exempt them from fair treatment by keeping them on remand at Luzira without trial since their arrest. The suspects were however given strict conditions for their release such as having to report to court every 19th of each month till trial date. They will also be required to pay UgX150m on jumping bail while their asperities will pay UgX250m.

Ladislaus Rwakafuzi, their defense lawyer said the government should provide earlier trial dates as opposed to imprisonment without clear trial dates as they can lose their livelihoods and businesses and could become radicalised. The suspects had been in prison since April 2017 with 8 accused of murdering Felix Kaweesi and 3 for Major Mohammed Kiggundu and his bodyguard Sargent Steven Mukasa.
