Christians from all over the world and Uganda in particular have started the 40 day fasting period with Ash Wednesday today. Ash Wednesday is a very important day in the Christian calendar as it kicks off the lent period which is a time for self reflection, repentance, prayer and gratitude.

As Jesus Christ fasted for 40 days and 40 nights in the desert denying himself luxuries, Christians today use him as an example and replicate his sacrifice.

NBS was at two religious sites this morning, Namugongo Shrine and Rubaga Cathedral with Samson Kasumba and Vicky Bagaaya respectively. Both sites had large numbers for the morning masses despite it being a time when most people would be at places of employment, which showcases Uganda as a very religious country.
