At around 4am on Monday morning, police was alerted to a fire along parliament avenue.

NBS’ Canary Mugume was at the scene with Ssembusi Clyde the Operations Officer of Fire and Rescue, Uganda police. He stated that the fire erupted between Ministry of Education and Uganda prisons. The area the fire started from was said to house unused furniture and other physical waste which could have contributed the spread. The actual cause of the fire is still undetermined amid further investigations.

Thankfully the fire was contained by Uganda Fire and Rescue as no casualties were reported and no significant damage to property as cars and generators were untouched. A cause for concern could be the fire safety plans for the buildings as there was no clear evacuation zone or plan as well as the number of fire extinguishers.
