In a session held at Buganda Road Court yesterday, it was announced that in the near future court proceedings for prisoners could be done over video interface.

Commisssioner General Of Prisons Johnson Byabashaija expressed his approval in the initiative as it would help save funds especially on transport of prisoners. He said that the Uganda Prisons spend about UgX 1.7Bn on transporting prisoners as well as maintenance of he vehicles being used. The initiative also serves to help suspects who are considered “At risk” to themselves or others and would be a good safety measure.

Chief Justice Bart Katureebe said courts worldwide are changing from a physical building to a service available to the needy wherever they may be. he also added that more judicial officers should embrace technology in administering justice.
