MPs Frustrated Over Sachets
A group of MPs converged at the Members lounge at Parliament to express their frustration at the continued production of sachet waragi months after the ban.
Western Youth MP Mwine Mpaka said that the plan was for the complete eradication of sachets by the 31st of May but that looks very unlikely. MP for Manjiga County John Baptist Nambeshe criticized the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Corporations for “sleeping on the job” and felt they shoul put more effort in the ban. Hon Mwine Mpaka stated that sachets are used to recruit young people into alcoholism and also mentioned that the World Health Organisation (W.H.O) put Uganda as the Number 1 consumer of alcohol in the world.
