Government to close unregistered homes in Uganda

After closing 160 homes between 2018 and 2019, the Government is set to increase this number by closing other homes that are not registered in Uganda. The Ministry of Gender has also discovered abuse in some of the houses with occupants beyond the accepted number of thirty.

Butanda Shafiq, the Head Alternative Care Unit says that more homes are going t be closed if they are not approved. He adds that the moment you don’t meet normal standards, the law requires that you close.

Ddumba Nyanzi Ismael, Monitoring and Evaluation USAID, says that unfortunately many homes in Uganda operate outside Government oversight without being registered and regulated. He adds that the few homes that there are few homes that are registered and operate within the accepted.
