Pupils at Kakyage Primary School, Bukedea District still study under trees. The school has two classroom blocks that accommodate only four classes, leaving the rest of the students with no option but to use the available tree shades as learning areas.
Once it rains, the learning process comes to a standstill as the students have to seek refuge in the few available classrooms.
According to the district education officer, Micheal Otubu, the district has 97 schools but over 14 are in a state similar to Kakyage Primary School. He attributed the current state of education in the district to inadequate funding but revealed plans for improvement.
