The state minister for disaster preparedness Musa Ecweru, was in Bududa to assess the magnitude of damage and to condone with those that lost their loved ones.

“I have come to, first of all, see firsthand what has happened to this place, convey the condolences of the government, the president and the entire cabinet,” said Ecweru.

Ecweru noted that the magnitude of variability has overwhelmed ongoing settlement plans to build houses adding that there is a need for a quicker relocation strategy. He said that there was a ranking of places that were considered more vulnerable and therefore extremely risky for settlement.

“Unfortunately, this was not listed among those places but nature has proved us wrong. That only goes to explain that the whole mountain is now fragile and therefore people must relocate,” added Ecweru.
