URA Licences Agents

Over 600 companies applied to be certified by the Uganda Revenue Authority(URA) for clearing goods. This pursuit has not been a positive outcome for some of these companies.

The Commissioner Customs, URA Dickson Kateshumbwa came out to say that measurements of time and efficiency are being done with an average clearance time of two days within the year. He exclaimed that for this same reason, over 80 companies have been disqualified not meeting the criteria.

“Exports are very easy and strategic for us, so we are not compromising on these standards. The staff of the clearing farms have to go through the competency tests and 380 failed to score above 50%,” said the Commissioner.

The Commissioner said that if the organisations cannot do the basics, which include demonstrating through a competency test, then it would be disastrous to give them licenses. He said that such organisations are going to play within the system and do things that are not acceptable.
