The police embarked on assessing hot spot areas where cameras are badly needed. So far over 2,300 places have been identified where 18 number plate and facial recognition cameras will be installed and connected to a 107 monitoring centre at different police stations.

“We believe this is going to be very helpful, already in Kampala Metropolitan where phase one was actualised, we can already see that there is much improvement in crime and safety. Therefore the additional cameras countrywide will act as a deterrent to criminals,” said Police Spokesperson Fred Enanga.
