Retired senior military officer of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) Henry Tumukunde made an announcement that he will be traversing the country consulting stakeholders in regard to his bid to run for the presidency. Speaking on the Morning Breeze show on NBS Tv, the General thanked the people of Kampala saying that he asked his questions and the results he got back encouraged him to, therefore, stand for the presidential office.

“Why do you like to make Museveni the centre of everything, he is not the issue why people want to stand. This is a seat called the seat of the president, it is provided for in the constitution, how they occupy it, of course with all the hustles that people have to go through, but it is not a seat of an individual” said Gen Tumukunde.

Gen Tumukunde stated that Uganda’s unemployment levels have risen to over 70%, revealing that according to the World Bank, Uganda is meant to provide over one million jobs and is only offering ten thousand. He added that increasing debt burden and urban crime are part of the reasons as to why he intends to run for the seat of the president of Uganda.
