Amidst speculations of postponing the 2021 elections, EALA Member of Parliament Denis Namara has cautioned that if Uganda held elections in such hard times, the issue of social distancing will not be business as usual. He said that with Uganda’s population, it is impractical health-wise. Namara warned that the outcome will be catastrophic.

“I do not think we can collect the UGX 1.5 trillion for the EC. We can postpone the elections for a short time, say two years so that we look for money to revive the economy. Politics should never come before the economy,” said Namara.

While speaking on the NBS Morning Breeze TV show, Namara stated that he does not think there is reason to be suspicious of the movers of this proposal to postpone elections. He said that this is about patriotism and their petition is anchored on the economy and the road map. He added that the petition is anchored by goodwill for the welfare of Uganda.
