Not Wearing A Face Mask In Public Places Now A Criminal Offence

The Ministry of Health has released a statutory instrument that makes it criminal not to wear a mask in public places.

Those found without, will be quarantined for two weeks. The instrument was gazetted yesterday and signed by the Minister of Health, Jane Ruth Aceng.

It is now a criminal offence to be found not wearing a face mask in public places. The Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary Dr Diana Atwine told journalists in her address yesterday that these are measures that Ugandans need to adopt.

She, however, warned that buying these masks from the streets could expose more people to the virus as reports indicate that buyers try on these masks before procuring them.
