Teachers under the Uganda National Teachers Union (UNATU) have tasked government to fulfil the commitment to ensure safety precautions in schools ahead of re-opening for candidate classes.

Among the demands is the need to fumigate all schools especially those that have been used as isolation centres in the wake of COVID-19, providing disinfectants and water to all schools and also appoint COVID-19 response committees.

“We also need to put in place temperature scanners which have to be used daily to check on the learners and the teachers”, said Deputy Secretary UNATU, Phillip Duluga Buni.

Phillip Duluga says that government needs to ensure that each school has a full-time personal health worker, who he says will be responsible for the school and handle any issue of an emergency. He added that schools and other education institutions needed to be added under the beneficiaries’ COVID-19 relief.
