Retired Chief Justice Bart Katureebe has formally handed over to his deputy Justice Alphonse Owiny-Dollo following the expiry of his tenure. Judicial officers gathered at the High Court in Kampala for the ceremonial send-off.

Among the achievements that the Chief Justice Bart Katureebe managed to accomplish included commissioning one of the buildings to be used as a home for the supreme court and the court of appeal.

He also introduced the information technology mechanism that has been used at Buganda Road court and Luzira prison to enable virtual court sessions.

Justice Katureebe is also credited for lobbying for better pay for judicial officers and appointment of more Judges, something that he saw would ease the problem of case backlog.

Justice Katureebe clocked 70 years of age on June 20th and had in the past stressed that he will not seek more time in office when he reaches retirement age.
