Jacob Kiplimo beat Ethiopian World Championship silver medallist, Selemon Barega, to win the 5000m of the IAAF Golden Spike 2020 Athletics meeting in Ostrava in 12:48.63.

Kiplimo’s win on Tuesday night follows Joshua Cheptegei’s World Record in Monaco last month.

Meanwhile, Winnie Nanyondo delivered a personal Season Best of 4:07.94 while finishing 9th in the women’s 1500m at the same event.

It is surprising that athletics has brought more accolades over the years for the nation than football but football gets more funding.  It is clear that athletics can be lucrative for Uganda with more funding and focus of the government.
