Like it has always been in the last years, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Primaries have always created an upset. NRM Primaries are the elections conducted to vote for NRM flag bearers who eventually represent the party in the general elections on given positions.

Last week, the NRM conducted an election to select the candidates who will be running for the Member of Parliament seat on the NRM ticket come 2021. The selected candidates have a task of tussling it out with the opposition candidates of various political parties to make it to Parliament eventually.

The election, though characterized by electoral anomalies like vote-rigging, loss of voter registers, intimidation from security forces, violence, and other shortcomings in some areas, it was considered a major success  for the party by the party Chairman President Yoweri Museveni and the NRM EC Chairman Dr Tanga Odoi who says voting by lining up is one of the best ideas they have adopted.

However, the election that took place came with a wave that saw several ministers and members of Parliament losing their seats while other new entrants were celebrating the victory attained.

Here is a list of Ministers who lost out in the NRM Primaries.

Ethics and Integrity Minister, Fr. Simon Lokodo
State Minister of Finance for Investment and Privatization, Evelyn Anite
Minister for Labour and Industrial Development, Mwesigwa Rukutana
The State Minister of Karamoja Affairs, Moses Kizige
State Minister for Urban Planning, Isaac Musumba
Science and Technology Minister, Dr. Elioda Tumwesigye
Environment State Minister, Beatrice Atim Anywar
Minister of General Duties in the Office of the President, Mary Karooro Okurut
Minister of Defence and Veteran Affairs, Mwesigye Adolf.

Most of these have since refused to concede defeat and they are likely to go independent. When they do, this means they have defied their party the NRM and in that case, the NRM Constitution automatically labels them rebels.

This is an interesting developing story that we will keep updating.
