Over 6,000 Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education registered candidates did not turn up for examinations as private schools failed to reopen after the first phase of lockdown.

The government has now been challenged to reopen and bail out educational institutions to ensure this does not happen in the next cohort of candidates.

A total of 98,392 candidates registered for the UACE examination from 1,952 Centres. 42% of these were females, while 58% were males. 208 candidates had special needs requirements. The female candidates outshined the male this year. Female entry into sciences and mathematics remains lower than the male

The Minister of Education and Sports Janet Kataha Museveni urged the students to join technical schools too if they can’t make it to the university. Janet Museveni urged parents to protect their children as they are home due to the pandemic.
