On Friday evening, the tough talking President Museveni, visibly irritated said suspects of murder should not at any one time have access to bail. He lashed out at Judicial officers who he says are doing the contrary. He also commented on MPs who walked out of Paliament saying they only advocate for rights of suspects leaving out victims who are already dead.

President Museveni also said bond is yet another ‘nonsense’ that needs to be removed.

Responding to the President’s speech this morning on Nxt Big Talk, NUP Spokesperson Joel Ssenyonyi urged the Attorney General Kiryowa Kiwanuka to convince the President to drop the idea because one day, he may also need bail.

Kiryowaa Kiwanuka and Maj(RTD) Pollar Awich pointed out that there is a real problem in society where suspects are abusing the law to tamper with evidence once granted bail and also people have resorted to mob justice to deal with the suspects.

The Shadow Attorney General, Niwagaba said it is important for the judicial process not to be interfered with for the benefit of us all. He urged the government to instead concertrate on strengthening its capacity to investigate so as to provide evidence that the judiciary requires for a speedy trial.
