Anita Among is Speaker of Parliament

Anita Among who has been Deputising fallen Speaker Oulanyah has been elevated to the position of Speaker of Parliament this afternoon. Among trounced Asuman Basalirwa who got 66 votes, scooping 401 votes.

In his speech, accepting defeat, Basalirwa decribed the electoral process and free and fair and pledged to support the Speaker elect Anita Among.

Anita Among pledged to not segregate the house in his acceptance speech and called for unity.

A better Uganda is good for everyone, irrespective of your political affiliation. We have reached out to all political parties in Parliament to work for our country. I will be a Speaker for all,” Speaker Anita Among.
