There was an uproar from the general public yesterday over the UGX. 2.5 billion budget for the burial expenses of the fallen former Speaker of Parliament Jacob Oulanyah.

The Chairperson of the Organising Committee of the burial,  Minister in Charge of the Presidency Milly Babalanda responded to the outrage saying the money is for the activities involved in giving Oulanyah a befitting burial.

Regarding the budget for burying Rt. Hon. Oulanyah, what matters is not the figures but the activities involved and status of the deceased. Let us avoid traumatising the family in this trying time,” said Babalanda.

However, the money has since been slashed to UGX. 1.8 million.

As the Ministry of Finance, we have been able to revise it down-ward from UGX 2.5b to UGX 1.8b. All the expenditures which can be done away with, have been removed,” State Minister for Finance, Henry Musasizi said.

The body of Oulanyah is expected to arrive in the country on Friday 1st April, he will be bur1ed on 8th April at his home district of Omoro.
