Mulago Hospital ED interdicted From Duty

Mulago Hospital Executive Director Dr. Byarugaba Baterana has been notified of his interdiction from duty by Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary Diana Atwine.

The Statehouse Health Monitoring Unit revealed that Dr. Baterana among other staff is being investigated over UGX 28b that are unaccounted for. Baterana was arrested by the unit on Tuesday 1st March 2022 from his office and has been in custody since.

State house Health Monitoring Unit boss Namara also revealed that they are probing Mulago ED Dr. Baterana on how two pharmacies, Eco Pharmacy and First Pharmacy came to operate inside Mulago Hospital.

The two pharmacies, Eco Pharmacy and First Pharmacy are operating in Mulago Hospital illegally. They have also defaulted on rent. In our view, we think private pharmacies shouldn’t operate in Mulago.” Dr. Namara, State House Health Monitoring Unit.

Misuse of government funds, misuse of office, embezzlement and causing financial loss to government are the charges against Dr. Baterana the ED Mulago Hospital, according to the State House Health Monitoring Unit.
