Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has launched 16 new factories at the Sino Uganda Mbale Industrial Park, marking a significant step towards promoting local manufacturing. During the event, President Museveni emphasized the need to ban the importation of second-hand clothes, aiming to bolster the market for domestically produced textile goods.

The Chinese Ambassador to Uganda, Zhang Li Zhong, praised the investment-friendly atmosphere and affirmed China’s commitment to fostering African development. These newly commissioned factories encompass a range of industries, including Adhesive Products, Chemicals, jeans, textiles, and electric meters. Energy Minister Ruth Nankabirwa pledged increased power supply to support the burgeoning industries and address employment demands in the region. President Museveni also announced governmental assistance, including the construction of a large drainage channel to mitigate flooding risks.

The Mbale industrial park contributes to Uganda’s larger plan of establishing 25 government industrial parks, with the dual goals of generating employment opportunities and boosting the country’s manufacturing sector.
