A section of residents in Obongi district has started to reclaim parts of the areas along the River Nile’s shores that they had previously abandoned due to the increasing water levels.

Despite the authorities’ establishment of buffer zones to discourage human settlements along the river, some residents have refused to comply, asserting that they lack alternative land for habitation.

Two years ago, hundreds of residents in Obongi district who had built their homes and cultivated gardens along the River Nile’s shores found themselves displaced. This was a result of their houses and crops being submerged due to the rising water levels of the river.
