The Minister for Works and Transport, Gen. Edward Katumba Wamala, on September 21 2023, officially commissioned a larger ferry at Nakiwogo Landing Site to facilitate the movement of traders and students across Lake Victoria, connecting Buwaya to Nakiwogo Landing Site.

The new ferry, which replaces the smaller, older one, is expected to enhance water transport services at Nakiwogo Landing Site. The ferry was originally in operation in the Buvuma Islands to Kiyindi.

During the launch of the new ferry, Minister Gen. Edward Katumba Wamala stated that it would meet the growing demand for ferry services at Nakiwogo Landing Site. He also cautioned ferry users against misusing it, emphasizing that it should not be turned into a drinking spot.

Local residents have welcomed the new ferry, expressing optimism that it will streamline trade and save time for ferry users, as it is faster than the old one.
