President Museveni Commissions Tororo Cement Plant, Urges Support for Industrialization

President Yoweri Museveni, on September 21 2023, officially commissioned the Tororo Cement Vertical Rolling Mill Plant, which is expected to produce over 1.2 million tons of cement annually, increasing the industry’s total production capacity to 4 million tons per year. During the commissioning, President Museveni called on Ugandans to actively support industrial development for the country’s economic growth.

Accompanied by his wife Janet Kataha, President Museveni arrived at the Tororo Cement industry at 1 pm to tour the newly commissioned plant. The plant is set to significantly boost cement production in Uganda, adding 1.2 million tons annually to the existing 2.8 million tons capacity.

After the tour, President Museveni joined a gathering of cabinet ministers, cement investors, and local political leaders. He assured the investors of continued support for their expansion efforts. President Museveni also encouraged the population of Bukedi sub-region to engage in creative business ventures to lift themselves out of poverty.

The State Minister for Privatization and Investments, Evelyn Anite, highlighted that the newly commissioned plant is just one of several industries expected to be established in the country in the near future.

Tororo Cement, which currently employs over 1,500 Ugandans, stands as one of the largest employers in the country. After the commissioning, President Museveni proceeded to Siwa Sub-county, where he also commissioned the Siwa Catholic Church and addressed a gathering at Siwa Primary School.
