Parliament Pays Tribute to Late Statesman Henry Kisada Kyemba

October 24 2023, Parliament gathered to eulogize Henry Kisada Kyemba, a three-time former Minister, and former Member of Parliament for Jinja West constituency. Legislators remembered him as a statesman who tirelessly advocated for good governance, justice for all, and a humble servant who prioritized the welfare of the people over personal interests.

The Leader of the Opposition, Mathias Mpuuga, recognized the significance of paying tribute to the fallen statesman, deeming it a matter of common sense and respect.

The body of the late Henry Kyemba arrived at Parliament at 10 a.m. and was received by Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa and other dignitaries. The casket was placed in state for public viewing before being moved to the Parliamentary chambers, where legislators had the opportunity to pay their respects and offer their tributes.

The motion to pay tribute was eloquently presented by the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for East Africa, Rebecca Kadaga. In her heartfelt address, she described the late Henry Kyemba as a statesman who ardently championed good governance, justice for all, and the principles of democracy.

Legislators from both sides of the aisle shared their memories and reflections on the late Henry Kyemba. Many highlighted his remarkable ability to build relationships with great leaders worldwide, emphasizing his practice of mature politics and his unwavering dedication to serving the public.

Henry Kyemba’s distinguished career included serving as Principal Private Secretary to both Prime Minister Apollo Milton Obote and President Idi Amin. He also held the position of Permanent Secretary and served as a minister in the governments of Presidents Amin, Obote, and Museveni. His contributions to the nation were substantial and enduring.

The late Henry Kyemba will be laid to rest on Thursday at his ancestral home in Bugembe, located in Jinja City. The nation mourns the loss of this remarkable statesman and reflects on his significant contributions to Uganda’s governance and democracy.
