Government has warned against the alleged illegal sale of government face masks to beneficiaries. According to the Minister for ICT and National Guidance Judith Nabakooba, the government has received reports that some local leaders are selling the free Government masks.

As Government started relaxing the COVID-19 restrictions, amongst the preconditions was wearing a face mask. This as Government committed to providing free face masks to Ugandans of six years and above since the majority could not afford them. Six million masks have so far been distributed in 22 districts with those districts at border points as a priority.

However, Information Minister Judith Nabakooba, says Government has got reports that some local leaders are selling government masks to locals.

“Government would like to remind everyone that the masks distributed by the Government of Uganda are free of charge. They are not supposed to be sold to Ugandans. Every Ugandan who is above the age of six years is entitled to a free face mask,” said Nabakooba.
