The Electoral Commission (EC) has kick-started the exercise of registering voters all over the country. The process has started at the LC1 levels to enable voters to verify their voting details with an aim to clean up the national voter’s register and weed out cases of multiple voting.

The exercise is set to cover the registration and identification of persons with disabilities (PWDs) to help in compiling the register. According to Paul Bukenya, the Deputy Spokesperson, EC, this exercise is meant to address the complaints that have been made about people registering as PWDs and are not eligible for the category.

Muwanga Kivumbi, shadow Internal Affairs Minister, has however cautioned the commission faulting it for not doing enough mobilisation which may affect participation, therefore, compromising outcomes of the national voters’ register.
