Federation for Uganda Medical Interns (FUMI) has tasked the government to provide them with medical equipment fearing the risk of being attacked by the coronavirus. According to the Secretary-General Federation for Uganda Medical Intern, Dr. Joel Mirembe, the hospitals where they have been attached have no protective gear.

“Liquidate some of the assets that have been donated and turn them into money to support some of the health workers and the vulnerable people, said Dr. Joel Mirembe.

The Chairperson FUMI, Dr. Herbert Luswata also came out to request the Ministry of Health through national medical stores to provide personal protective equipment enough for the internship sites. He said that this is because interns cannot afford to buy protective health equipment.

” In a hospital setting, almost more than 50% of all our patients present with fever and yet we lack the test kits to be able to taste and rule out coronavirus, meaning they are all potential patients of COVID-19 and the only thing left us to be safe is the use of this personal protective equipment, said Dr. Luswata.
